The Palms

Celebrate another good avocado harvest with draft beer, raw meat, and rock music. That's how the Germans do it, right? Scott and Ruben will be sporting fluffy shirts and lederhosen (those leather shorts with suspenders that make a man look like a spoiled, overweight child with a roaring oedipal complex--think Augustus Gloop from "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory"), while Maggi will transform into the rockin' Visigoth Brunhilde--braids, helmet and all. Now this you gotta see! Hairy man-legs, copious cleavage (male and female), bloodlust, rolling "r"'s, and an irrepressible weakness for polkas. It's the holy trinity of marketing symbols for Bavarian culture: Beer, Blondes and Boobs (all manner of them). What human can resist? Who are you to even try?

Bernadette's Lounge

Yes indeed Russ Loco's Birthday is being celebrated worldwide today! IRM will lead the Ventura-based celebration with a special gig on the little, tiny, miniscule (did we say tiny?) postage stamp size piece of wood that they call a stage at Bernadettes. It's been a while since IRM helped Bernadette lose her ability to host live cover music and the band has moved on to larger venues. Yet, there is a small, tiny, miniscule (did we say tiny?) place in IRM's heart for places that they used to perform at, even when they weren't always treated like the royalty that they are. Never accuse IRM of forgetting all of the little people that they trampled over in their rush to the top strata of downtown Ventura's dive bar sene. Wait a minute. This is supposed to be all about Russ Loco, not IRM! Who is Russ Loco, you ask? Only IRM's self-proclaimed number one fan among cancer survivors between the ages of 50 and 70. You know Russ, the guy who looks like a lumberjack, drinks copious amounts of Guiness stout and regularly dances like a possessed madman at "It's All Good." He has been a dedicated stalker of Maggi for many years, although IRM has yet to file the necessary paperwork to create the permanent injunction for a 100 foot zone of safety around their much-loved bassist. Anyway, IRM agreed out of the goodness of their heart to miss whatever fantastic TV shows air on Tuesday night and instead help Russ celebrate his Birthday; because it's all about Russ and what makes him happy! This event is by invitation only, so I'm not sure why you are reading this and we hope that you don't intend on showing up (unless of course you are an attractive female who suffers from the disease known as "alcohol makes my clothes fall off in public places while listening to a classic rock over band."

IRM once again returns to It's All Good on the third Friday of the month. What more could you ask for? Summer night on Ventura's strip, no cover charge, ample libations and a capacity crowd at every gig. Ruben put out a special invitation to the Dalla Cowboy's Pacman Jones and hopes that he will come on down and "make it rain" benjamins. Or maybe TO will grace us with his presence and offer up a tearful defense of TR. Speaking of TR, maybe girlfriend Jessica Simpson will stop by and join Maggi on her rework of "These Boots Are Made For Walkin". Regardless, it's sure to be a night that you won't want to miss and what better place to bar-hop than on Ventura's revitalized downtown strip. See you there.

Keynote Lounge

Now here's something completely different! IRM has agreed to play a one-off Sunday Night gig at the Keynote Lounge from 8pm to Midnight. It's been many years since IRM has performed at Keynote and countless party people over the years have been encouraging IRM to check it out again. Thanks to the persistent efforts of Natalie, IRM intends to do so on Sunday night, August 3rd. IRM has not performed at an East Ventura venue since dropping out of the rotation at O'Learys, so here's to hoping that some of IRM's East Ventura friends are around on August 3rd. I know, I know, the Ventura Fair is in town on Sunday night and who knows what little known has-been band they have booked this year. Who care?! We don't because you'll still need a place to chill out and come off of that funnel cake high once the last Firework has exploded at the Fair. Check out what's cooking at the Keynote and, who knows, if both the band and the management enjoy the night, there is a possibility that IRM might play there again on a Friday or Saturday night when you can really tie one on.

Summer lovin', had me a blast; Summer lovin', you happened so fast... Well, what more could you ask for than self-cooked meat and IRM? Beats me. You need to get on down to the world-famous Palms and liven up this sleepy little hamlet with the rest of the crazy visitors who storm the beaches every summer. IRM never knows what's going down at the Palms and it remains one of the most interesting venues that they play. Is that a nice way of saying that the place has no security and IRM has watched many middle-aged high school rivals duke it out over slights to their females? I'm only kidding, that almost never happens at the Palms. Anyway, don't sweat it because you don't have to join in the mayhem if you don't want to and Lauren, one of IRM's favorite bartenders formerly of O'Learys, will protect you. Bring the kids for the first set and then tell them to get the hell out of there as our boogie oogie oogie the remainder of the night away with your new close drinking pals.

It's All Good

It's All Good is centrally located in downtown Ventura, smack up against the movie theater. From it's resting perch, it sees all of the barhopping nightlife flitting back and forth along the historic downtown Main Street. Who cares that the local Ben & Jerry's Ice cream parlor does not serve up the best flavor, Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream. Well, actually I do, but that's another story. Anyway, forget about the ice cream and focus on the cold tapped beer and exotic mixed libations that are available for rent at It's All Good. The live music starts at 9pm and goes all the way until just quite 1am. In between, you'll experience the unusual musical tastes of whatever bartender Jimmy decides that you need to hear that evening. With no cover charge, you can try it and always leave if you think your dollar will produce better entertainment elsewhere downtown. Since you cannot own the beer and only rent it, when it does come time for it to leave your body please make sure to get in line at the first symptom. Opposite of the Star Lounge, It's All Good has only one unisex toilet for the entire venue and it's unusual for there not to be a line. Plan on spending some time getting to know your prior and subsequent seatmates as you stand in line with nothing else to do.

It's All Good

Is it just me or is the social scene in downtown Ventura kicking major ass at the present time. You cannot walk more than 20 feet on the sidewalk without seeing someplace where you could part with some cash for drinks/music. At the heart of this sprawling center of fun lies the bar "It's All Good." Yes, that glass walled watering hole next to the movie theater where its like a human fish tank where you can stare at everyone inside the club. This is where you will stumble into IRM on June 20th should you be making the downtown pub crawl. Try to go the bathroom before coming to the club as the line is notoriously long for the one toilet, but that's a small price to pay for a great venue.

Buena High Football Stadium

Do you like to walk in large circles while hearing decent live music? Come on down to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life where Inna Rude Mood has put together a team (actually, Scott's son Chad is doing it with friends from Cabrillo Middle School; this is Chad's second year with a fund raising team). You can sign up to be a team member, or just come on down and walk circles on the Football Stadium track as IRM plays from the middle of the field. There will be two bands ahead of IRM and one band after. IRM will play 3 40 minute sets starting at 3:30pm. The stage and sound system are located at the center of the football field and walkers on the surrounding track will hear everything quite well.

CAPE is a new charter school approved by Oxnard Union High School District in 2007. This is a rare opportunity to feed your family, help a GREAT K-8 school that is making a difference in the community, and enjoy Ventura's most lovable cover band all at one venue. Avocado Day at The (Swinging) Palms

What's green and happens on the first Saturday of October every year in quaint Carpenteria?? Why, their world famous Avocado Festival, of course!! Let's see Forrest, there is Avocado salsa, Avocado ice cream, Avocado chicken, Avocado steak, Avocado cotten candy, Avocado fried oreos, Avocado funnel cake, etc. Wait, maybe we're mixing up the Ventura County Fair with the Avocado Festival? Who cares, there is definitely beer and lots of fun for the whole family when the town blocks off main street for a huge street fair. This is the night to check out the Palms, because after all the wannabe party people go home when the street fair shuts down, the real ones head to the Palms to get their groove on with IRM. Last year there was a line formed around the block with security tighter than the hippest Hollywood night spot. Get there early for dinner and hang out inside so you can make faces through the window at all the hapless souls standing in line on the sidewalk. Mark the date and don't be late!

As the great Stephen Colbert often says "they all hate us for our freedom and what better way to rub their proverbial nose in it than to purchase vast quantities of alcohol while enjoying the greatest music ever written as performed by IRM." Alright, Stephen doesn't actually say that, however, he probably would say it if he both knew of this President's Day gig and was aware of just how awesome IRM's songlist has become. IRM is once again trying out a new live music venue in downtown Ventura that is seeking the type of 40+ baby-boomer audience that IRM has been cateriing to for the past six years. The current owners of the happenin' Cafe Fiore and Westside Cellar restaurants have decided to try their hand at running a cool bar. What was once a dark dank dingy dive bar has now been spruced up--with floor to ceiling windows facing the sidewalk--to resemble the type of popular club that you trip over as you walk down State Street in Santa Barbara. The venue plans to feature bands on Friday night and karaoke on Saturday nights. The interior resembles IRM's familiar O'Leary's haunt and--with tons of flat screen tvs, a pool table, long bar, and outdoor smoking area--it's almost heaven on earth for the party hardy people. Come on down and do your part in the continued revitalization of downtown Ventura and support one more live music venue featuring the best of classic rock, blues and funk. Well, at least come support Scott's continual quest to book more and more gigs at venues within the same zip code area as his humble abode.

IRM has been asked to perform at Blue, a classy nightclub/restaurant down the street from The Canyon Club. IRM hasn't played at the venue for a few years as they have concentrated on gigs in West Ventura County (they are a lazy bunch of sods). It will be an early Friday night though with IRM rockin' the classics and then followed by DJ Shane catering to the late night ravers. Come check out this gig if you've only ever seen IRM perform in dusty clubs without much of a stage.

Don't let yourself start the new year carrying regret from 2006. IRM's motto is "It's our duty to please that booty." It's All Good (Bar)

Check out the scene at downtown Ventura's latest hot spot. Park in the main parking structure and walk just beyond the Movie Theater to this great venue with outdoor seating, in-door dancing and world class drinks. This is IRM's second gig at this club and the first one was very well received. The place fills up quickly with the high foot traffic along Main Street and be careful when the "Borat" movie gets out as many of the "gypsy-like Borat movie patrons" stop into the club and try to pick everyone's pockets or drink wine fermented from Donkey urine while bragging that their sister is the number three prostitute in all of Ventura. No, maybe that was just a dream or a scene from some funny movie that we just watched.

O'Learys Sidebar

Can you believe that it's already December? Well neither can we. How did we get in this sorry state of affairs anyway? Who cares if you missed the shopping opportunity of both Black Friday and CyberMonday. We still love you and encourage you to take all your hard-earned cash to O'Learys and party like there is no holiday shopping list. Remember that it's always better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission. You can definitely get away with not buying any presents for anyone else for one year as they'll still have your gift and be expecting something. Just don't try to do it two years in a row as people are not always as stupid as you may think. What does this have to do with an IRM gig at O'Learys? We're not sure but we woke up this morning with a bad case of verbal diarhea.

It's All Good (Bar)

This venue is located in downtown Ventura on Main Street, a few doors down from the movie theater. It's a great place to hang with friends, drink and dance to classic rock. Check it out the day after Thanksgiving and work off some of that turkey, stuffing and apple pie.

Crowne Plaza, Top of the Harbor Ballroom

The Mayor of Ventura is not inna rude mood and wants to show his appreciation for all the fine art talent in town. He's hosting an art awards show and Inna Rude Mood will provide the background music. Look for light blues from 6-6:45pm, awards presentation from 6:45-7:15 and then more tunes from 7:15-8pm. An early night and a quick paycheck endorsed by City Hall; it doesn't get much better than that. If you show up and think that the room is spinning, have no fear, the circular room spins at a slow rate and has been getting Sunday brunch goers seasick for years.

O'Learys Sidebar

IRM's most reliable gig in Ventura has to be this friendly bar on the East side of town. The regulars are friendly, the bartenders are hot chicks and it's difficult to have a bad time unless you really work at it. IRM has consolidated it's 'Olearys Weekend' into one Saturday night gig and it's always a rockin' time.

The Palms

This past year, IRM has become a favorite band of the Palms clientele. The owner has asked IRM to perform at their busiest night of the year, the evening of the Annual Avacado Festival. Why is this night different from all others asked the simple child? It just so happens to be the most packed night of the year at the Palms when the club hires bouncers like the Hollywood clubs to keep the lined up masses outside the door from bumrushing the venue. As the pros like to say while filming in the San Fernando Valley, come early and come often! No, that's not quite what they say but you get the picture, if you want to be sure to get into this gig, make sure that you show up before 9pm and wear something green in honor of the lovable avocado. Or, if you arrive late, the owner has assured us that topless women can move to the front of the line and can also bring one guest along with them. So at least you have that going for you.

Bernadette's On Main Street

IRM has recently added this excellent live music venue to it's monthly rotation of gigs. It's a funky little venue in downtown Ventura that features a light food menu, fine wines and interesting beers. While the band plays on a small stage at the rear of the club, there is dance floor inside and then a large patio to hang with friends. Some of Ventura's best bands regularly play at this intimate venue and you really can't go wrong by checking it out.

The Drink

IRM is first act on a bill that features the Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band, Saturday Night Special. Howard Freiberg presents classic rock Fridays at The Drink Nightclub featuring live tributes to the best in rock every Friday night. The club has a state-of-the-art sound system, large dance floor, outdoor patio seating with smoking section and lots of parking. IRM will rock the joint from 9pm to 10:30pm with their tribute of a classic rock cover band and then hold on to your hats for the finest southern rock tribute to grace the galaxy.
